Return to Play: The 2020-2021 SLMHA Season Begins.
Published: October 1st, 2020
The Sioux Lookout Minor Hockey Association’s Executive Committee consists of 17 volunteers from the community—many of whom also serve as on ice helpers, coaches, trainers, or managers throughout a typical hockey season. During the summer of 2020, members of the executive held meetings to create a plan for a safe and fun return to play in our community. After consulting with the Recreation Department for the Municipality of Sioux Lookout and the safety guidelines defined by Hockey Canada, our association opened registration for minor hockey on September 14, 2020.
As of September 30, 2020, more than 170 participants are registered among six age divisions: U7 / U9 / U11 / U13 / U15 / U17. Coaches and other volunteers are adjusting to many changes such as dressing room protocol. Anyone who has been to a practice this year can confirm that the kids are off the ice and back home in record time. The staff at the arena are sweeping in to clean everything as soon as the last skater leaves the building. Almost makes you feel like you are inside the NHL bubble for a few seconds.
We know that 2020-2021 is going to be a hockey season like no other before. Although it sometimes feels like everything is different, the sound of skate blades cutting into fresh ice or children laughing as they chase a puck down the ice never changes.
As always, the success of this season will be determined by a team of volunteers who will help all our skaters develop and have fun...and we are always looking for more help! Our association becomes stronger every time someone steps forward to help out. Please contact us to sign up.
Registration for the season closes on October 15, 2020. From our newest skaters in U7 (formerly known as IP) to the high school students on their farewell tours, we welcome you all to another great season of Sioux Lookout minor hockey.
